Zillow 3D Home Tours: Do They Help Sell Faster?

360-degree virtual tour panorama of a Las Vegas listing

I was the sole photographer for the Zillow Offers program in Las Vegas, so I’ve shot more Zillow 3D Home tours than I can count. Agents ask me all the time: does a Zillow 3D tour actually help a listing sell faster? The short answer is yes — but not for the reason most people think.

What Zillow 3D Home actually is

First, let’s clear up a common confusion. A lot of “virtual tours” are just 2D photo slideshows dressed up to look panoramic — you can’t actually move through the space. Zillow 3D Home is a real 360-degree walkthrough: a buyer pans around each room and moves between panoramas, walking the property from their phone.

It’s hosted for free on Zillow, forever, and here’s the part most agents miss: it ranks your listing higher in Zillow’s search results. Zillow rewards listings with more media, and a 3D tour is the heaviest media signal there is.

Do they sell faster?

The honest answer: a 3D tour pre-qualifies buyers. A buyer who walks the whole house online either wants to book a showing or they don’t — either way they’re not wasting your Saturday on a property that was never a fit. Fewer tire-kickers means the showings you do get are more serious.

It’s not magic. A home in poor condition shown in immersive detail won’t sell faster. But a well-presented home with a 3D tour gets found more often on Zillow and attracts buyers who already know they like it.

Zillow 3D vs. Matterport

They’re not the same product. Matterport is the premium option — a full stitched model with a dollhouse view, floor plan view, and measurement tools, viewable in VR. Zillow 3D Home is lighter: faster to capture, free to host, and it lives on Zillow specifically. For a lot of resale listings, Zillow 3D is the higher-ROI choice because the SEO benefit on the biggest real estate site in the country is hard to beat.

You can also add a Zillow floor plan integration, which makes the listing stand out in Zillow’s map view.

Pricing

As an add-on to an HDR shoot, a Zillow 3D Home tour (10 to 12 panoramas) is $50, and the Zillow floor plan integration is $25. It’s one of the cheapest line items I offer, and it’s the one I’d never skip on a resale listing. If your buyer pool is on Zillow — and they are — you want the tour there too.
